GOVERNMENT BAR ASSOCIATION COMMITTEES FOR 2011-2012
Audit - this committee will review
the treasurer’s report, checkbook and bank records and submit a report to the board.
By-Laws - to review existing bylaws and recommend improvements.
Corporate status: to study whether
we are properly incorporated and to find someone to help us become a 501 (c)(3) corporation, if the board so chooses.
Directory - To organize a directory and to determine if it should be like the past or a pictorial directory.
Educational
Programs-MCLE - Education programs: to find out from members, what type of education programs are needed and to organize MCLE
programs that meet the MCLE Board requirements. To review and recommend whether we should become an approved provider
or continue having programs approved individually. To maintain records for three years
Legislation - to review
legislation of interest to government lawyers; to publicize it and to take other action, where necessary.
Long-Range
Planning - to review materials prepared during 2008 with Mr. Craighead as facilitator and to learn what else we
should do and focus on in the future.
Luncheon Speakers - to recommend and decide who will be speakers, where the
luncheon will be held and to publicize and write a summary of the speaker’s presentation for our newsletter and website.
Membership - to review how to retain existing members, recruit former members, and get new members. Will
help decide whether to have a membership directory including whether or not it should be a pictorial directory.
Newsletter
- solicit authors of articles and through our list of members solicit news for our newsletter and prepare it for distribution.
Nominating /Election -to manage the distribution of petitions for those interested in running for office, review
those petitions, ensure at least one person is nominated for each position and conduct the election for any contested positions.
Scholarship - to publicize to all the Illinois law schools that students interested in government service, should submit their applications for the scholarship.
To review the applications and notify the recipient and the Dean so that the Dean can present the scholarship if the student
is not present at one of our activities.
Social Activities -
to plan and manage special social activities such as: the September Joint Bar Association dinner, our holiday party,
any other social activities during the year and the annual meeting/wine and cheese reception.
Website - to review
the present website to recommend improvements and to update it with other important information for our members
